The Italian Job was one of my favourite film of all time, with the line 'You were only meant to blow the
bloody doors orf'. But 30 years later and a sequal, set in the glorious USA, which was panned
by the film critics, brongs us a game 'based on the 2003 blockbuster from Paramount'. Things were
not looking good, but at twenty quid, surely it cant be that bad? Well no its not, nor is it any
good. The driving part is split into a few section, including racing, which is easy, and time
trail, which is solid, freedrive, which is boring and story mode, which ain't GTA! Infact thats
the problem... Its just very very dull, the cities seem small, there are NO people to try and run
over and hardly any cars, the coppers are just too damn annoying... There are a few jumps, loads of
car transporters to use as ramps... even the stunt mode, which features driving along an assault
course, dont save this game from being below average.
The graphics are clean and crisp.... and thats the problem, the cars you drive look like they are a transfer
on the screen, there seems no damage except for cracks on bonnet and smoke from engine (Oh
and wing mirror fell off once). The buildings are cleverly built with loads of secret entrances, jumps and the like,
but it feels more like a Mario city rather than LA.... I will play it some more, but Im not
expecting my mind to change.
