Ok then so the start was an hour late, why? Well, I wanna tell you a story, I picked up, Billy, the pit gate bloke, on my way to the track, he was getting soaked in the early morning rain. As we drove up the slope over the potholes I commented "Look at that I have never seen the tide so far out" "It flooded some roads yesterday" said Billy "Well we will have no trouble today" I stupidly said. What a stupid thing to say. I am a Twonk! Lets say I realised within an hour I was wrong. The water flowed very fast into the pits, covered the grass at the back of the track and kept coming! "It won't go on the track" I said. I should learn to keep my gob shut.. Swoosh and we had a flooded track. I used a full roll of film straight off, taking photos of the chaos in the water and the Junior Banger drivers with their cars, no helmets by request from some woman/girl.
The commentator had a crap day, the mike kept cutting out and eventually it fell permanently silent, this made working out race results for myself, quite difficult, you miss a lot when looking down a big camera lens :)
I spent some time in my car, escaping the rain reading the magazine of shite things you never realised you needed and still don't need. The worst was "Birds that look like they have flown through the window" What sicko came up with this ? "half the bird goes outside the other is inside" Looks like a bird has been hacked apart and stuck on either side of the glass. 4 for £9,99. makes me mad that people buy this stuff aarrgghh.. Anyway I digress
I had a quick chat with 18 Andrew Molloy, he's 15 and been racing at Warton for three years. The worst time for Andy, other than meeting me, was when he bent the front of his MiniStox in a smash a couple of seasons back. His car today was a tiny Jap dustbin, and he was not too confident of doing well, no worries though as he won Heat two and got a fifth in Heat one and after sorting out a loose harness in the final he was taken out by a mad girl in car 395, who ignored a black flag for over six laps.. She had clobbered the little, but fast Metro 829, as she rejoined the track. The Metro went on to take the win, well after 555 Martin Yeats had took himself out, and almost rolled his Astra, there was not that much competition. 888 Anthony Kerr, who races Ministox at Barrow and Millom, very well he told me, had an on off day. He took the win in the first heat, which was the race that the Hillbilly car 185 went out big time, launching off the ramp to the infield almost doing a loop de loop.. Anthony Kerr also buried the Lada of 741 in the final into the far corner wall.. 101 James Hayhurst had a naff day, by his standards.
The Juniors were not the only Black Flag ignores, the mighty John Riley, who had won the Final was shown the black flag, I'm not sure why, and promptly ignored it lap after lap in the Grand National, until the end of the race, there may be a ban in store for him there. The lady of Super Bangers, no not Jay Kellett, had a up and down day, winning heat one and not finishing in the Grand National Yup it was one of those days for 100 Ann Potts :) The usually uncatchable 57 Steve Hardy had a crap, by his standards, day, not winning any race. He spun Ann out in heat two and the Feisty Fiesta of 673 Warren Harwood took the win. 22 Anthony Kenny made his day by taking the Grand National win and avoiding a big pile up in heat two
44 Ste Smith, who was off form last meeting, blasted back this meeting taking wins in heat one and two of the Unlimited Minis, he span in the final, ending up last, but drove to third by the end, 26 Shaun Yeats taking the win from 25 Andy Yeats, who had lost a wheel in a nasty incident in heat one, almost taking out cannon fodder marshal Frank!.. 62 David 'Schmokin' Eccles had a day he'd sooner forget, not finishing in heat one or two, Alex Chapman, 134, had a mixed day, with a DNF in heat one and snapping his steering rack in the final, that said it was not a mixed day, it was a crap day for him..
The Stocks had a clear winner today and that was 590 Julian Naylor, sponsored by a sewing service!! Tis True, he stitched wins in Heat one, two, but his tread of wins was snapped in the final when he pulled out early. The final saw a big smash between 8 and 108, the latter leaped over the front of the former. 5, Jonathan Clarkson took the final win letting 251 Gareth O'Bernie win the Grand National, well maybe he didn't let Gareth win, but he did :).
The Bangers and you never know who is going to win. I was stunned as The Motts had first, second, third AND forth in heat one, kept swapping the lead with each other. It was a bit of a Rod Fest tho Rick Ball got the Worm out in a big way (No not that you dirty minded person). The Motts held on to the win with 111 Jeff Pratt taking it from Rick. Heat two and 518 Jon Woods was in a cop car, complete with flashing light and badge. There were 6 TNT cars in the start grid of 14 bangers. I missed the winner as I watched, in glee, 535 (unknown Invader) clobbering TNT car of 97....After the red flag to mark the close of the heat! Mr TNT was VERY displeased and explained in swear word his displeasure to Mr Invader, then Mr Invaders car getting jacked by Mr vexed TNT, it seems it then spilled over into the pits with a footy supporters style stand off and much finger wagging and calling. I awaited the final in glee. 23 cars came out, 3 Invaders, 5 TNT and 4 TMK plus others.. Only 6 cars finished, 666 Andy TMK Pennington and 149 Paul TMK Gore had a 96 car as a filling to a Mott butty. Nice Mark Thomas TMK got a good seeing too by Mr Nasty Dan Steele, Dan also took out another new driver into Marks wreck.. 162, 151 Steven TNT Scurr and 514 Invader driver were in a wrecking train, well more of a jacking train, as Mr Invader had piled into the stuck car of Steven Scurr, these three were not doing anything else this race :) The Banger Mechanics ended up as a DD as Dan again caused mayhem and destruction, I like the new 'don't give a f*ck Dan Steele.. Its great to watch :) He had a full pelt head on at the pit gate with some poor sod and that was that awesome :)
The weather had done its best to spoil the day and even the tide ignored God and flooded the track early on. The gale was going all day, but it was still a fun meeting :) Having the tractor draining the track during races was a new thing and quite amusing, thanks to all the drivers and spectators for turning up. Don't forget the next meeting is May 19th, Bombers (smaller bangers) and we need folks to finish track repairs on May 5th at 10AM sharp
