A day to celebrate, or at least think about, the raising of Christ from the dead.. What do we do?
Sod Praying & Go Racing...
Not so many bangers but golly gosh how much action can one take in a day? We even had the air ambulance visit,
to take a sick spectator to hospital, we wish her well.
On the track though it was awesome... First up was the tiny tots, sorry junior Ministox. Heat one
18 starters, loads of new faces & cars, & paint jobs, hi Martin and of course Andrew. It was
a good clean race considering, and only 4 did not finish, #492 Dan Hurst, #811 Mr Parker, #555
Martin 'butcher' Yeates and #161 Nick Hyphenated. #343 Lee Wrennall took the win with #101 James
'lanky' Hayhurst second & #3 Shaun 'The Saint' Twist a splendid third. 'The Saint' span
in heat two after #340 had also had a spin. #18 Andrew 'painter man' Molloy pulled off on the
infield then went back on the track & broke down, very bizarre! New boy #16 took a win with
#343 Lee Wrennall and #811 Mr Parker gaining. None of us were prepared for the final, least of
all #232 Josh 'stuntman' Quinlin. Josh had a massive moment rolling onto the s/f marshal post.
Mss Marshall had legged it, but brave/stupid (delete were applicable) Alan Panther, photographer
extraordinaire, just stood on the post, erm watching! Both were unhurt, though Josh was understandably
shaken. The restart saw a black flag for Mr Parker after he unceremoniously punted #16 into the
pit gate. #93 Sam 'Mini saint' Twist went out after a spin and #343 took the win. the grand national,
my least fave races at Warton, was dull in comparison, though the racing was good & close.
#308 got a very flat tyre & #16 took another win, he gonna be one to watch this season?,
#101 James 'lanky' Hayhurst second & #811 Mr Parker third... The good news is these lot will
be in BANGERS next meeting, I think they were just practicing for that today :)
The big minis had a quieter day, though there was a great turn out of 11 cars
, though the racing was suburb. Unlimited Mini champ #44 Ste
Smith, won heat one after another awesome drive from himself. #309 Angela Fryer went out after
cleverly avoiding a crash, she broke hard, flat spotting a tyre and was out. Heat two & Ste did
not have it all his own way, oh no, #25 Andy Yeates kept ahead of Ste most of the race in a great
ding dong battle. #62 Dave 'heartthrob' (not my words) Eccles took the win with Ste second and #134
Alex Chapman just getting past #25 for third. More close racing for Ste in the final, this time
with the heartthrob, they were driving side by side lap after lap, nip & tuck, eventually Ste
broke free & took the win Dave slipped to third as he was passed by #134 Alex Chapman. Rumours
that Ste has bought a F2 stock were confirmed, now that should be great to watch!
Super Bangers had a good day too, a few new drivers & cars... Though most looked rather second
hand by the end of the day! #439 Jay 'Rodder' Kellett went out in a huge pile of smoke, a rod had
blown a hole through the side of his engine, so I was later informed. #181 Michael Creighton
took the Win, as he did in heat two! #'s 944,274 & 247 spent most of this heat doing spins and
bashing each other. #100 Ann 'Peggy Butcher' Potts went out with a big misfire & car #19 Michael
Bell also had a bad misfire. The final saw #351 Tut Knowles rimming round the track, his tyre
must have parted company early on :) #944 Tam Cavanaugh got the win. #247, Lee Edge, again had
a spinning time in the Grand national and #181 Michael Creighton span out near end of race, he was
none too pleased about that! #351 'king' Tut Knowles took the win, #21 Phil Varley & #274
David Christopher, who had stayed out of trouble in this race, got third!
The Stock Cars... What a day these guys had.. Heat one and #29 Lee Rigby got in a tangle on the
pit corner with #777 Jack Lord & lost a wheel. I genially rolled down the start/finish straight until #212
Ian Maher hit it smack centre of his car, this launched him straight up in the air & back down
very heavily.. Red flags went out & Ian walked away. His car was knackered though, front suspension
was shot. To think we thought the action would be from the massive V8 Stockie numbered 513. Heat
2 and a big pile up next to the ill fated s/f marshal stand! #38 Chris Atkinson took to the air,
looked like he was gonna roll, but he came back down. the roller was #77 Jack Lord, who's car stood
on its rear, like Thunderbird 1 at launch, for what seemed like an age, before finally going on
its roof. Jack was OK and though his racing was done for the day, he too walked away! Jacks son
Jason, #234, launched himself at the same spot on the restart, but survived until the far corner
where he was hit by #59 Mark Brook & #377 Steven Murry, who both got in a right tangle. Out of the
carnage #347 Hoss Nelson took a win :) The final and though it was quieter, #251 spent most of it as a temporary cocaine
on the exit of the far corner, facing the oncoming cars. It was inevitable that he was going to
be hit and #330 Mick Greenwood duly did :) #102 Dean Simpson somehow got beached on the pit corner.
The highlight of the grand national was an unnumbered car hitting the outer wall at the far
corner, ripping a front wheel off and having it end up under his rear wheel.. good stuff indeed :)
Bangers had a good day too. heat one and #104 Fat Daz got a boner from #178 Bones on
the start finish straight. Bones also stuck himself into #350 Danno of Stinkbridge, who in
turn had pinned #695 against the pit gate, his door plate bent like a banana. #98 Billy
Doolan had his Crappie wasted a bit further round the corner, he had launched himself upwards
, landing hard against the inner wall. #514 Paul Woods took the win, #157 Barry Greenhalgh &
#690 got second & third. The Steeles had a new driver out in heat 2, #215 Joycey... He had
a puncture but still finished the heat! #291 Jason Hewlett also had a flat tyre, but did
not finish. #491 Grumpy John Mason went out after a spin & #818 Craig Tucker, ran out of
luck & had his door skinned! #416 Angus & #120 Daryl Wall also did not finish. A certain
Mr Dan Steele won with #287 & #42 Steve 'Donkey' Owen third. The Final & #395 managed to roll, all on his own. After the restart the action was all down on
the pit bend, except for a massive shunt for Angus, #416, who was destroyed by a fearless
#514 Paul Woods! #42 Steve 'Donkey' Owen went out when his gearbox, ERM, just fell onto
the track! By the end of the race Paul Woods had buried himself into #157 Barry Greenhalgh
with #612 Lee Bennett & #291 Jason Hewlett in the mix. Dan won and #491 John Mason and #151
followed him home. The DD was a bit of a damp squib with Joycey taking a hollow win after
he avoid all the earlier action, though he did do two head-ons late on, so I suppose I'll
let him off..
