Was this the last ever Unlimited Mini meeting? Well it could well be, the results were all the same with three wins for # 62 David Eccles and three seconds for # 25 Andy Yeats and three thirds for # 125 Wayne Palmer. Highlights, or rather lowlights went to poor Angela Fryer., # 309, who failed to get her engine running in heat one, caused a restart and then stuffed the car into the pit gate. She returned for heat two, but had to pull off mid race. Dave had a bit of a scare in the final, by passing Andy and hitting the outer wall hard, causing a bad wobble on his front wheel for the rest of the race.
Super Banger driver # 19 Michael Bell had an onboard camera to 'get some action shots', well I hope he did in heat one as his car was badly damaged front and back on the first corner of the race. # 888 got squeezed out of the race, into the wall, but it was not by Tut or Kellett as they had both sold their cars which were being driven by their new owners. A car that is unlikely to be sold, is the one numbered 274, David Christopher, who not only rolled his car in heat two, but was hit by a hapless # 802 Graeme Black, reshaping the rook to make the car look like a pickup. # 888 was hurt, in the final, though I know not how badly. It was a close grand national, with # 244 Martin Makim loosing the lead on the last corner to a very happy # 9 Phil Varley.
It was another busy day for the Warton Stock Cars with a first race roll for # 105, not that that stopped him racing the rest of the day. Jack Lords' car had an astounding day, despite it being badged and numbered for his son Jason to race. It won three races, # 2 Richard Ball had a good start with a second to start the day, but seemed to loose speed until the Grand National when he won. # 134 Alex Chapman, seems to be getting to grips with his car, getting good placings in a few races. Yet another ex-ministox driver doing well was # 342 Dan Wrennall took a win and a few high finishes too. It was not all fun and games though as, in the final, # 912 Les Helme and # 345 Richard Pass took each other out after a smash. # 717 Mark Duckett got span out on the final lap, and he was up there for a high place finish.
Banger action was extreme and frequent! And there was a first for Warton, a Rolls Royce driven by # 666 Andy Pennington, coming back in style after his year ban. There was also the little matter of the war between the Steeles, who had five cars today, and Bad Newz, which we were right in thinking was not over. Also out to play was TNT, Team V and a couple of Invaders. including # 501 Basher Kaye in a rare Rover P4, which should have been raced at the Pre 68 two weeks earlier, but couldn't get it working in time. Other cars of note was # 98 Billy's Yank and # 104 Fat Daz in a car decked out like a taxi. In heat one # 665 Paul Pennington managed to spin # 510 Alan Lewis, Alan must not have been impressed with that, as re remained facing the wrong way and battered and bashed Paul's car. Daddy, in aforementioned Roller, came round the corner, clocked what was going on and reversed into Alan a few times. It was kicking off all over, Dan was in the heat of battle with # 170 and # 62 Dave Eccles of Bad Newz. Dave had a go at trying to run me over, when he was forced onto the infield by a TNT car and came straight at me! Dan's brother Deano, # 431, was jacked by # 14 Wil Walmsley, who in turn felt the wrath of Dan. Fat Daz had his taxi skinned down one side and # 16, the Leveller of Rob Howard looked very second hand. Bones dished out, possibly the hit of the season, by taking out the Leveller of # 687 Steven Spenser, TNT's # 119 Chip Kitchen, # 98 Billy Doolan with a Steele on top, that being # 215 Jason Joyce, and when I say on top, I mean like a cherry on a cake! Daddy Steele, Ray, # 40, was jacked into the wreck by # 720 ROG, who in turn was jacked by, # 156 TNT driver Dave Knight, who was jacked by Leveller # 265 Ian Wallis. Ray managed to get free, but took a hard swipe from another Steeles car on his drivers door, bending a half inch door plate into Rays midriff. The race was red flagged, and Ray was cut out and taken to hospital. The latest I have on his condition is a few broken ribs and internal bruising, I wish him and his family well for a speedy recovery. The track was cleared and we had a FULL restart. # 98 Billy Doolan took on the P4 of # 501 Basher Kaye. # 436 Dan Cowan was jacked by # 550 Dave Strippit Sinclair, from way up North! # 270 Jimmy Howard was the target for various cars to practice on and # 119 chip kitchen took the win. We were breathless by now, but the Consolation was next. Spins galore, # 211 Chris Newton and # 44 Ste Smith, both span after a battle. Ste the span # 665 Paul Pennington. Ste's team mate # 170 Gavin Howard attacked Bong Gang member # 30 Doug Roberts and Doug went on to bury Dave Eccles in pit wall, Ste Smith came round and bonged Doug, good and proper! It was smiles all round.. Time for the Final then..... # 514 Paul Woods nibbled at # 170 Gavin Howard, # 30 Doug Roberts was span by Mr Strippit, # 41 Dan Steele was totalled into the far corner wall and a Warton Crush developed, most cars tried to get through, by bashing away, but it was in vain. Ste Smith hesitated and was forced into the crush by a flying # 29 Neil Hodson in his Jag. # 302 Andrew Downham was hit a bit by Bad Newz, but gently, as he was in a likkle Peugeot car! Neil's Jag was next to be hit, by that man Mr Strippit. At the end Dan came over, and asked me to say that the driver of # 211 was not the right one and therefore should not have been in the final, things got a little heated and words were said, but it all got cleared away and we hoped for great DD action. Sadly it was not to be, Bashers P4 was finally wasted and # 157 Grandad, was also a bit mangled. That said it was generally agreed that this meeting was one, if not the, meeting of the season. I have ordered more for the 28th Dec... Well here's hoping.
