The UNLIMITED MINIS were down one car, # 62 Dave Eccles, whos father had got the dates wrong, had gone watching horse racing, at Badminton, or summot. Anyway it did not detract from the great days racing, # 44 Ste Smith, despite winning everything, and that includes the silver roof, did not have it all his own way. # 25 Andy Yeats made his mini a maxi, by making it seem as wide as the track slowing Ste's progress to the lead in the Championship, # 132 Paul Postlethwaite lost a wheel and was out, Ste & Andy span into the stricken car, both carried on. Ste got clipped on the last bend on the last lap by # 217 Derek Moon, but that made no difference. The big fight in heat one was between # 217 Derek Moon and # 309 the ever improving Angela Fryer. Angela's day ended early as she got into a slide and belted the inner wall, hard, she hurt her foot and was shaken a bit. This bad luck was a good thing for Ste Smith as, with my help, he changed the flat tyre on his car in the infield and was ready for the heat two complete restart.
SUPER BANGERS and # 351 Tut Knowles was in a brand spanking new car, though bad luck came and said hi to him as his front wheel was ripped off, or rather ripped itself off, over the bolts and his championship race was done. It was no better for # 274 David Christopher who ripped out a water pipe after a spin onto the inner wall, had an early finish. # 439 Jay Kellett avoided the wrecks and took the first of his four wins. Heat one saw Tut go up the field and then slowly get passed again, it was very odd. # 19 Michael Bell punted # 100 Ann Potts onto the wall in heat two, and # 802 Graeme Black, stopped for a while, then carried on. The Mechanics race and # 244 was span by Tut and # 19 just stopped. The only car that I think had a mech in it was # 9, the car of Varley. Jays day ended in the Helter Skelter as he came onto the infield with the wheels pointing opposite directions. # 19 Michael Bell took the win.
The WARTON STOCK CARS were as eventful as normal, and instant, first corner first race # 187 Chris Turner ended up going hard into the pit corner exit, he plodded away. The championship race was restarted and it seemed clean until a spinner and # 295 Dean Dewhurst went into the wall and was the duly hit by # 347 Hoss Nelson, Hoss was knocked out cold for a few mins, and Dean got whiplash.. This happened on the last lap and both walked away. The Consolidation saw plenty of spins, but most carried on, except # 220 Dean Leek, who hit pit corner wall. #212 Ian Maher brought out waved yellows in heat one after he was hit from behind and hurt his hand. # 38 Chris Alderson left some oil on the track after removing his sump on inner wall. # 67 Peter Fawcett also failed to finish this race. Heat two and a clean race, where we noted that # 5 Jonathan Clarkson was not up to his usual speed.. # 911 Peter Kaulbarsch was a bit miffed as his car stopped in the Grand National, he threw his steering wheel in anger. # 717 Mark Duckett and # 251 Gareth O'Beirne got into a minor tangle, caught on camera.. The Helter Skelter saw # 5 car took off, about 6 foot in the air, as he hit the inner wall.
Last but not least was the BANGERS it was quiet enough in the consolidation, unless you were # 501 Basher Kaye, who had told me he had no steering, he was not wrong. The corners seemed to get hard knocks from Ste. # 170 and # 270, both Bad Newz boys raced side by side for most of the race. Until # 170 was punted by TNTs Bad Boy Esq. The Championship too was quite quiet with # 41 Dan Steele was struggling in his Grannie Mark 1 Coupe. # 48 Kevin Chadwick span out #431 Dean Steele. Dean restarted and threw his car around the corners. # 157 Barry Greenhalgh did a sterling job and past Dan Steele but he could not catch up with # 510 Alan Lewis. Heat one and a Warton Crush that cleared itself after a few jackings.. all carried on, though # 48 Kevin 'Volvo estate' Chadwick was soon mullered into the pit wall by # 119 Chip Kitchen. My mate Fat Daz , # 104, rolled his car, though to be fair he only had three wheels on tarmac as one had been moved to about 10" from his head. # 510 Alan Lewis span but carried on, and # 151 Steven Scurr went into the wall hard in his Jag because 'the steering lock came on'. The hit of the day was by the Jag of # 270 on # 178 Bones, who had walloped the Jag the lap before. Its funny though as I had written on Bone's car, in biro, my website address on the car that had lasted three meetings. Is there a WARTONONLINE.COM Curse??? That said the Jag had it painted on too and he did OK.. The DD was short and involved # 501 Basher Kaye having head ons with # 17. # 416 Angus, belted # 170 in his Volvo then he pushed Basher into the wreck of # 170.. it was a good day.
