Ok here goes!!! FACT 1: I am not a member of the Warton Committee, or Warton Stock Car Club. FACT 2: I can only report what I see. So what did I see at this meeting.. Well, getting stuck right in, the Demo Derby, as the flag dropped #2 Rick Ball went away on a flyer.. Bones and the #437 car, which the lads had been trying to get fixed all day, got splattered on the pit bend, the 437 car only did half a lap and got halved in size. The only other car #667 Martin Pennington, in his first senior banger meeting, went after Rick. Rick went in the infield and Martin cut across. Martin hit Rick at about a 45 degree angle. Martin got out and looked at Rick & Rick also got out and was not happy at all. A stand off ensued, until the punches flew, I cannot remember who threw the first punch, but there were many. Others then joined in and it all got a bit silly. I wondered off to get pics of Bones' follow in. When I got bored I looked back and saw that the arguing was continuing, Rick was being held back & Martin was stood on his car. I wondered over to have a chat with both parties. Tempers were fraught and I made a speedy exit. Well until I got to the pits, where as I waited for a lift, I witnessed more name calling and threats from both sides. I expect that #667 Martin Pennington, #2 Richard Ball and #666 Andy Pennington, will all receive lengthy bans.. As will #274 David Christopher, from the Super Bangers who lost his temper in the Grand National and caused a very nasty accident, almost wiping out a marshal as #439 Jay 'biggles' Kellett went airborne. DC's temper had been fraying all day, as #181 Michael Creighton had seemed to have taken an aversion to DC and they had been sparring since heat one. That said poor old Leon Jarman, #34, ended up with a well trashed motor after it was mashed by #57 Steve Hardy, who must not have noticed it parked up on the start/finish straight. Still at least they walked away, unlike poor old #717 Ian Makim, who had to be cut from his stock car after a Warton Crush in that class. Last I heard he was home and on crutches, I wish him a speedy recovery :)
There was plenty more action on the day, in Ministox, there was controversy as in Heat 2 many cars overtook on waved yellow flags, a big nono. They were docked laps and #3 Shaun 'improving all the time' Twist got the win, with #230 and #161 Nick I-H following :) Loads of carnage in the final with accidents all over the place. The usual suspects, though, came out on top, Lee, Master Parker & Martin. The lesson of the day for young, new, #232, was to fuel up before the race starts :)
The Unlimited Minis just get better & better, the racing gets closer and closer, yup even though #44 Ste Smith won everything, he his finding it harder & harder. Stes' dad went out racing in Stes' old car from last season at Warton. Derek, for that is he, had a mixed day, pulling out of the final.
We also had guests from Buxton, the Hot Fords, how did they repay us? By destroying the speaker tower and almost killing Chris from the other Warton site. Still at least I got to keep my tenner hit money :) Kirsty McColl, #33, did not want to rule the world, but destroy the photographer. It was funny seeing some one other than me legging it :)
More banger news, thank God that TMK brought some tin, most of the other regulars were down at Hedno for the PRE68, there was a van which lasted a few laps. #667 Martin Pennington, in his first ever senior banger race, was doored by #2 Rick Ball (photos in gallery). #396, the van, saw some action, though was on the receiving end as many, inc. Bones and Andy Pennington, bashed it around. ~491 John Mason & # 64 both took out #157 Barry Greenhalgh. #296 got splattered on the start/finish straight. Heat two saw #2 Nasty Rick, the filling of a Mott butty, Martin in his rear and the Duck up front. #98 Billy had brought his car that should have been the forth car in my third team down, better late than never! It was nice to see the nutter that is #50 Jamie, back, he wanted to finish off his Capri, and I think he succeeded. Martin got stuck into #157 Barry Greenhalgh, in the final, and both went out.. The rest of this race was a bit of a rod fest..
And that was that really, and interesting & very long day at Warton.. Still the last meeting of the season should answer more than a few questions, such as punishments, and the winners of ALL the classes... I canny wait :)
