Ministox were back again after a one meeting rest, and plenty of old young faces back too. # 223 Josie Schofeild went out early in heat one after a spin. # 16 Thomas Hall was also out after getting span by # 928 Ste Dodd's and # 232 Josh Quinlan went out too. That said # 343 Lee Wrennall, future hubby of the Warton Queen, least that's what she says, took the first of his three wins today. The second heat and one that will remain with # 40 Jonathan Croad for many a long year. It all seemed to be going well enough, but from no where, the mini of Jonathan took to the air in an awesome roll. I don't think I have seen a car go so high before. Anyway our Test Pilot wannabe landed with a thud, but still walked away from the wreck, well when I say walk I mean staggered. Knee high to a grasshopper but Jonathan is as hard as nails! It was a final to remember for # 223 Josie Schofeild, as she gets the award for most destructive driver of the race. # 28 Michael Williamson was punted onto the infield, and # 124 Hitman Hambilton was span out on the last lap. To be fair there was plenty of banging and crashing all race from various drivers, but Josie said she wanted a mention :) # 16 Thomas Hall ended the day better than it started by taking the win in the grand national, sadly # 928 Ste Dodd's hit pit gate hard and Hitman Hambilton had a flat tyre. Oh I did say that Lee Wrennall would no longer be racing as he is now 17, but has his birthday was in September, he can race to the end of the season, which means the next meeting WILL be his last with the Juniors.
We were expecting things to be quieter in the Unlimited Minis but nope. # 25 Andy Yeats brought out the red flags after hitting the pit gate full on. He was OK and even managed to win the Final!! # 409 had a steady day, Angela, didn't seem to have the speed from previous meetings, even holding the lead for a few laps in heat two. The Rhino, from Buxton, also known as # 22 Phil Martin, enjoyed throwing his Mini around our sharp corners. That ended in the final as Rhino drove through # 132 Paul Postlethwaite, who span in front of him on the Start Finish line. Paul's rear wheel was torn away, but once again, they both walked away. The other Buxton lad, # 666 Andy Carter had a good day, getting a third in the Final and not getting any damage all day. The one that makes most girls swoon, # 62 David Eccles, went home happy with two wins and a second in the final behind a very wide Andy Yeats.
Despite getting married the day before, # 439 Rodder Kellett won three races in the Super Bangers, including the Grand National where he started a lap down! All this despite a hang over and some rodding during the night! # 141 must have been on the beer too, as he did the first half a lap in reverse.. # 274 David Christopher and # 100 Ann Potts span separately, then it all broke loose. Cars went into each other and # 19 Mike Bell ended up on the inner kerb. It got no better in heat two, to say it was scrappy would be a major understatement! # 888 came out in a nice shiny straight new car. I thought I will take a pic of that on first lap while it looks so good, nope! There was a massive pile up on the first corner and by the time they came near me it looked like it had been racing for weeks! # 964 Anthony Whittaker and # 944 Tam Cavanagh both had to stop early. # 200 David Rainford, held off Rodder to take the heat victory. Final action was given by DC in a spin, he carried on, though # 100 Ann Potts and # 888 went out after spins. The highlight for the grand national was the awesome drive of Kellett going from a lap down to the lead, with two laps to spare! He has sold his Super now and will race in V8's next year, so watch that space!
The Warton Stock Cars driver of the day could have been # 777 Jack Lord in his little beast of a car. He finished heat one, despite almost taking himself out trying to move another driver out of the way. He won heat two and only just lost the final on the last corner of the last lap. # 86 was in the wars again after a major bash with # 295 Dean Dewhurst, which took both of them out of heat two. # 85 Stu Tydesley had a torrid day, with the final seeing him blocking the racing line of the far corner exit for about half of it, he finally managed to get the car to the infield. # 5 Jonathan Clarkson took two wins but was unable to take advantage in the grand national, which was won by # 251 Gareth O'Beirne, though only just, as he almost lost it exiting a corner, but recovered well. # 342 Dan Wrennall and # 271 had a grand scrap in the grand national, making it a grand race to watch.
The Bangers had a busy first corner of heat one, # 190 got span and doored in the middle of it all, though most carried on. # 510 Alan Lewis got stuck into # 247 Lee Edge, spinning Lee out of the way. # 612 Spunky Bennett went for a drive along the inner kerb and # 104 Fat Daz was finished by Spunky, Daz had his Capri skinned. # 696 Karl Bradshaw was totally destroyed and the Bad Newz/Steele vendetta continued with Dan plunging # 217 Derek Moon into the wall. More bad news for the Bad Newz team in heat two, as # 270 Jimmy Howard was mullered into the wall by young # 880 Anthony Kerr of DAHMbusters. # 62 Dave 'Bad Newz' Eccles was walled by # 491 John Mason and # 48 Kevin Chadwick just blew his engine to bits. The end of the race saw a 'debate' between the warring factions of Steele & Bad Newz, so we all waited for the action from the final. It was worth the wait. Dan jacked # 270 Jimmy Howard and put him into the wall. The TNT boys had fun taking themselves out in a three car pile up, but they all carried on. # 298 of TNT then decided to turn is attention to non team mates, he did well # 699 felt a nudge on his rear bumper then gravity was forgotten as he took off over the inner kerb and ended up in the corner wall. Not too many turned out for the DD, but what was lacked in number was more than made up for in action! First blood went to Eccles as he span Dan, who was then hit by # 270 Jimmy Howard. TNT's Donkey, # 42, had a nibble at Dave Eccles, thus started the cat and mouse chase, Dan led Dave on a merry chase through wrecks and puddles, on and off the infield, round and round. Eventually Dan got bored and stopped waited for Dave to hit him and off they went in a mini wrecking train. A full half a lap, with Dan steering and Dave pushing, then it all went a bit Pete Tong for Dan. He hit the inner kerb hard and over onto his roof he went. # 699 was still moving so a few choice hits from Dave and it was all over. A gloating Dave went and shock Dan's hand, though judging the reaction of Dan, I think the war is far from done, well we can live in hope.
