What a May day, as Ken Dodd once said... Didn't he? Anyway my words tasted really bitter
after I had to eat them following Joycey's day in the bangers, more of that later. Ste Smith
did not win a single race & made a mistake and Rodder Kellett may need a new nickname, yup
we were back racing at Warton and everything was up in the air!
We started off with the Junior Bangers and a VERY impressive display from a certain
paint loving driver, #18 Andrew Molloy. It seems this season the is a Jnr Banger Trophy to go for
and it was not the usual suspects battling for it. The Saint, #3 Shaun Twist, had just managed
to get his car ready to race, a really smart Vauxhall, well when I say smart I really mean
crap. It managed one race and neither the car or Shaun, who's birthday it was, were seen again.
I later learned that the clutch was fu... erm was not working any more. #343 Lee Wrennall
put out #829 Riot Squad boy in his Metro. #182 also went out after hitting the wall, #519 was out after spinning Lee Wrennall in a good, yet daft, move.
#18 Andrew Molloy just kept out of trouble & took the win with #555 Butcher Yeates & #101 Jamie
Hayhurst getting the other places. Heat 2 and Andrew did not start, but #829 Riot boy did, and
he got revenge on Lee for the earlier hit he received, very impressive to see a Metro take out
an estate car! Jamie Hayhurst joined in the fray and it seems that Lee was not impressed with
Riot Boys driving, I have to say that I was though. #500 an Invader called Edward ??, hey what
can I say I'm called SnOrK, took the heat with Jamie & #507 in hot pursuit. Edward, for that is
his name, punted Andrew onto the infield, but young Molloy made an impressive recovery and drove
like a demon to still take the victory, he will be racing our Outlaw Stocks by Christmas, and
on today's form he WILL do well! #555 Butchers boy, who had generously given me a lift onto the
the track, spent most of the race spinning, wots all that about then? Still another impressive
show, from the drivers of tomorrow, today though they have been racing a while now.. ERM I'll stop
here & move on I think :)
So next up was the Super Bangers... #224 was a new car with a V8 engine, with bits sticking out of
the bonnet, looked like summot out of Mad Max, hence the nickname Mad Max! That said heat one
saw #964 Anthony Whittaker getting a massive push, sideways, all the way down the start finish straight.
and numbers 247 Lee Edge & 184 have a spin or too. #439 Rodder Kellett took the win, heat two saw a massive
pile up which took out around 5 cars.. Rodder Kellett got a black flag after getting stuck INTO #19
Michael Bell, twice, ending Michaels day... Both the hillbilly cars bashed into Rodder ERM Hitman Kellett,
so #964 Anthony Whittaker got the win. #21 Simon Varley got second and #181 Michael Creighton
got third. The Grand National was the cleanest race and #274 DC took the win with Hitman Kellett
second and Mr Creighton third.
We had waved yellows in heat one of the Stock Cars after three cars got in a right tangle coming down
the start finish straight. The large field remained somewhat unscathed and #67 Peter Fawcett took
the heat with #218 Will Ball & #347 Hoss Nelson following him closely. Heat two and #31 clobbered
the corner wall and #314 span out. #218 Will Young, ERM Ball went one better & took the win. There
was plenty of light action in the final, though they caused loads of cars to exit the race.
#67 Peter Fawcett stayed out of trouble & won with #5 Jonathan Clarkson got second with
#932 Philip Wells third. The Grand National was unfortunate for #85 as he got wrecked in yet
another expensive tangle, but Mr Clarkson blasted to the lead and won the race.
#44 Ste Smith had a rude awakening in the Unlimited Minis as he won nowt! #134 Alex
Chapman was on a right royal flier winning EVERY race today. In heat one #126 Michael Nicholson
had a scary spin hitting the inner kerb on the far corner. Ste took forever to get past #62
Dave Eccles but Ste got second and Dave third. It was exactly the same for heat two, without the spin from #
126. #125 Wayne Palmer pulled off instead. Close racing in the final with #62 Dave Eccles on a blinder for first few laps,
but #134 Alex Chapman eventually got past him. Ste Smith tried too hard & span into the pit gate, he
rejoined and finished forth, ahead of him was #25 Andy Yeats and David Eccles with the unstoppable
Mr Chapman at the lead.
The Bangers had a slow start with heat one seeing Joycey go straight into the far corner on his
own, slightly wrecking his car, he then spent a while creating a massive smoke screen at the pit corner
exit, that completely blocked the visibility for the other drivers. True to form, the biggest
hit of the heat was from #514 Paul Woods, who clobbered #143 Sam Begley into the middle of
next week. Other than that it was a bit of a rod fest. #510 Scottish World Champ
, Alan Lewis, in a very well prepped car, took the win.
Heat two saw #41 Dan Steele spinning like a top, he then got a bit fed up Winkie of Team V & spent
quite a while driving into Winkie and reversing & driving into him again. Eventually Dan got bored and moved
on #512 Allan Woods driver doored a car that had span out in front of him, then Allen went on to spin out Mr Steele.
for a moment or two there were 3 Team V cars in a pile at the pit gate, though two got going gain.
Win was given to #507 with #131 & #310 after him. The Final was awesome infact I could say it
was a helluva race, but I wont. More like a dd that a final it all went off big time at the pit gate.
There was a fire, and a nice juicy and solid Warton Crush..... #514 Paul 'Fireball XL5' Woods
got span on far straight & helped cause a bit of a blockage, Paul got free, but the crush went
back to the pit gat, Most everyone was involved. Joycey was done for and Bam Bam too had finished.
Paul pelted round & finished off the TNT car of #151 and lollipop too was trapped. Paul broke free
and drove round the track when his car exploded in a ball of flame, he was going at speed and
he left a line of flame behind him. He got out of his car when he realised what was going on and
legged it, with a huge grin on his mush. It turned out that a petrol tank had got stuck under his
car, from another banger, and with the friction of movement, the little petrol inside was ignited
toasting Paul a little. That said, as the race had been red flagged, Paul got in & drove off
the track.. The remaining cars were not so lucky as almost all of them needed towing back to
the pits. Angus, #220, #111 Jeff Pratt, Eno, Dan Wrennall, Winkie, Dan Steele, #573 whose
tank I think Paul hit, Allan Woods, Singy and Sam Begley all had mangled wrecks to try & fix for
the next race. The win was #507's and we waited for more action. It was not long in coming as
it was decided to have a Banger Mechanics race then a restart & a dd. #512 Allan Woods went out
into the pit gate #266 Big Al & #269 Tony tyre (?) went out on far corner after Joycey monumentally
wasted them both at the same time, knackering his car too...But worse was to come, in the
DD, While FIREBALL & #151 were having a bit of an argy bargy match, joined by #48 Kevin Chadwick
and #310 ENO, #41 Dan Steele picked up a lollipop near pit gate and went full pelt down the
back straight ,followed in the lollipop and hung him out to dry. Lollis Jag was now near enough
on top of the wall at a very strange angle indeed.. Dan then went on to head on team V team mate
#310 ENO to round the day off nicely..
Next time F2's are coming to play!
