Weather reports had warned of a strong risk of thunder storms later in the day.. They were
not wrong, the lightning was cool but the torrential rain was not. Yup it was yet another,
soggy, Warton meeting.
The Queen was too busy organising pop concerts and putting out
fires rather than visiting us. It was a normal points meeting so we had regular bangers and
all the other classes. The spectators were a little thin on the ground, watching footy in
the pub methinks. It was nice to see so many flags on cars, mainly union jacks or the
George Cross, but also #14 John Riley who had his own little black flags. John had a great
days racing in his Super Banger winning EVERY race of the Supers including the Grand
National, where he started a lap down.. Is this guy unstoppable? #274 David Christopher
had a nasty heat one, he rammed the Hillbilly car hard into the wall, it looked like
mechanical failure on DC's car, well he too went out a lap later. That woman driver,
#100 Ann Potts, had a good day getting two second places and not damaging her car any more
than it already was, well only a bit of a bump, when she span out #673 Warren 'Fiesta'
Harwood, on the start/finish line. :)
The Mini Stox driver of the day was happy #343 Mr Lee 'Smiler' Wrennall. Lee won the heats
and Final in the Mini Stox but in the Grand National was won by #555 Martin 'Hunk of good
lurvin' Yeates. Martin 'swoon' Yeates nudged #344 Haley Parkinson on his way to victory.
#101 James 'AARRGGHH I HATE THIS CAR!!!' Hayhurst had a new engine, replacing the one he
destroyed last time, but still got aggressive at his motor before the end of the day :)
Some things never change, unlike #18 Andrew 'Holly' Molloy, whose car was showing signs
of a new Union Jack paint job and sported the flag of the day, A tiny Union Jack with the
Queen 50 years ago and today, it was so sweet : There were 13 MiniStox out today and the
racing was so close that often they were three abreast going round the corner, with only
1 big pile up in heat two, where they all got going again.
The Unlimited Minis gave us three side by side racing in most heats, though #44 Ste Smith
was again the man to catch, he won heat two and the final with ease, though not lapping
that much quicker than the rest. Ste hit the pit wall and went out in heat one and #134
Alex Schofeild snapped up the win, though Alex left at the interval after pulling out of
the second heat. The Yeates brothers #25 Andy & # 26 Shaun with #62 David Eccles made up
the top four in all the other races.
The Stock cars had a full day and field (18). Heat one saw waved yellows, well I saw them
but I don't think #5 Jonathan Clarkson did, as he continued to bash and push #4 Billy
Parkinson. Billy was not chuffed and a minor DD ensued. Things got calmer until #347 Hoss
Nelson, who had hit the pit corner hard laps earlier, decided to get out of his car, on
the wrong side and very groggily, to cap it all #251 Gareth O'Beirne slid backwards into
Hoss' car. They were OK and the result given to #590. In heat two #611 and #65 Nathan
Lawson got tangled, it took 6 blokes to get then free, and #107 John Baron went on to
take the win. #29 Lee Rigby had a fun day getting into tangles with various people. #777
Jack Lord span out and was beached on the inner wall in his stunning looking Stocky.
Then we get to the bangers!!! There was a total of 32 bangers today, with TMK had a good
turn out of 5 cars and 1 secret team member, #695 Kevin Bradshaw, who gave the game away,
having the words 'its me' on his drivers door!. #2 Rick Ball finished the day early as
his Jag broke on the warm up lap in heat two, it had nothing to do with TMK. Though in
TWO races, heat one and the final, TMK drivers took each other out! There was a Mott head
on in the pit corner and in the final #666 Andy Pennington spun out Mad Mark. In Heat
One #501 Steven 'Basher' Kaye had a good hit on #196 Mark Smith and #695 Kevin 'Its me'
Bradshaw spun out Inader (A spelling mistake, I think, on his car) of #767 Colin Parr,
Paul also got spun out by #149 Paul 'The Duck' Gore whom then swept through though and
won heat one and later the DD. Nice Mark '#449' Thomas was removed from heat one by Team
V's #340 Jonathan Atkinson as he stuck Mark into the far wall. Jonathan's day did not last
long, his Granny was well mashed and his day was done. #461 Singy had an awesome motor,
a 1964 Galaxy 500 (car of the meeting, though it was not mint, it was superb) in heat two.
We saw, a massive, Warton crush that flowed down the straight, #415 and #48 Kevin 'scouser'
Chadwick did not survive. Singy attacked #512 Allan Woods, #616 and #151 Steve 'TNT' Scurr
Jnr causing mayhem wherever he went. #511 Steve 'TNT' Scurr Snr stuffed his Jag into the
rear of #415 COCO (the Clown?). New driver #616 hit the outer wall hard and his driver's
door popped open. #41 Dan Steele won the heat.. The final saw another massive pile up, which
stuffed #616 and #491 John 'Mr Grumpy' Mason in the inner wall. I was shocked that a car had
my website addy on it #118, no idea who or why, but thanks mate. This car did well attacking
and mashing various cars, though getting spun out by a TMK car was shameful : #318 Paul
Hooper got stuffed by #350 Lee Hird who in turn had #151 Steve Scurr snr reshape his arse.
Young Scurr felt the wrath of #41 Dan Steele and #224 Michael 'Champ Rodder' Ross took the
win, The Duck finished in second and #666 Andy 'Roadreaper' Pennington 4th. The banger
mechanic race started well #41 Dan Steele on a flyer, punting off all unsundry, but on the
last lap it turned into a DD as Dan was ambushed by all the others including #118
wartononline.com car! The DD was a messy, yet tidy one, as in massive destruction but tidy
as it was all in a small area! As I said before the Duck won with a bish bash with #352
Nick Hird.
And that was that, great fun at reasonable prices! I will NEVER predict the weather again
in the program, I think I may be a jinx! Look at that I did the whole report and did not
mention that #555 Martin Yeates looked like Big Brothers Bubble with a stupid Gimp hat
on and therefore looked like a babe repeller rather than a magnet:)
