MINISTOX
Twas a damp start and the Ministox were first out. There was, not surprisingly, good few spins and some great car
control, and all from ones so young, makes you think there is hope for our world. The one who got the warmest, smuggest
feeling was that Jimbob Hayhurst in his car numbered 101. Twas still slightly moist for heat two and # 601 James Taylor
was moved into the wall by the car of # 131 David Jones. There were plenty of skids and spins, but # 226 Daimo Thrill
lived up to his name by getting launched on the infield going at least two foot in the air, he was ok though car # 113
was not, poor young Ben White had his rear suspension removed when it was clipped after he pulled up with an engine
problem. The happiest driver was that # 93 in a Return of form for Saint. He was verily happy after the final, seeing
as he won it, lucky/unlucky driver of the day was # 17 Jamie McCann, who can trash a Ministox like no other McCann. He
was coming into my corner, clipped the inner kerb and got launched across the track into the outer wall. I actually
swore when I saw the damage, and would like to apologise to lil Jamie, who must have never heard such a word before.
Though I think his mechanic might have said something slightly ruder when the car was returned to the pit. It was
totally destroyed in the front area, with his box frame looking very detached from the rest of the car. Jamie was OK
though, least until he left the track, I know not what befell him when he returned to his trailer… The race had been
stopped for another accident though, this time between # 131 Dave Jones and # 11 Chris Smith, both these drivers were
unhurt, though a tad shaken. I stirred myself for the restart, and was flabbergasted by # 344 Hayley Parkinson, who was
on a blinder, even spinning out Jimbob. # 152 Mike Jones and # 492 Dan Hurst were also having a great scrap further down
the field. The Grand National and awesome racing from the top cars, # 93 did well from a lap down, but the nip and tuck
betwixed Jimbob and Haley was heart warming, and no doubt underwear soiling too. Jimbob, er, came out on top in another
fine victory.
STOCK CARS
We had, erm, two virgins in the Stock Cars, as in not raced them before! (No your not reading a Carry On script). They
were # 3 Big Saint (all grown up and thinking about wearing nappies after his practice laps) and # 8 Dan Bell (beefy to
his mates - not porky as I said earlier in the year!). They both did well in the day, managing to keep out of trubble
(both she and Tut were relieved about that - they are so thoughtful and caring). That said it was not plain sailing for
the others with a big pile up in the pit bend on the first lap, due to the track being damp and therefore slippy. Only
car # 752 failed to restart and # 234 Jason Lord, went on to take the win. Heat two was red flagged after # 481 Mick Kemp
was walled by # 34 Leon Jarman. Mick had bruised his back but soon got out under his own steam and the racing continued
with that Lord bloke again taking the honours. The Wrennall brothers took an awesome 1 - 2 in the Final with # Lee just
pipping older bro # 342 Dan for top spot (mind you theres a photo for ma's mantle piece). # 24 Richard Harris was well
cooked by the end of the race. The Grand National and great racing all round, though # 717 Mark Duckett was removed
after (in his own words) 'going for a gap that wasn't there' between the inner kerb and Rick Balls car. # 67 Peter Tap
took the win.
SUPER BANGERS
There have been plenty of rookies (I have been told this is a better word than virgin when referring to racing) in the
Super Bangers with non better than erm most of the non rookies. That said it has been a growing class and great fun to
watch, this day was no exception. The wall claimed two cars in the first heat # 137 Ste Kellett and # 162 the latter of
whom went wide and both failed to continue. They were not alone as other DNFs (Did Not Finish) included # 108 Stewart
Penswick (in his first mention in my reports), # 280 Matthew Atkinson and # 314 Jay Ollerenshaw (one on many ex banger
drivers who are going to, or have, swapped to the Super class). That Jay Kellett bloke romped home for the win. # 244 M
and M and M took a photo finish win offav that Gayboy dude in heat two, in what was described as a 'good' race, though
the best seat to watch it was that of Jay Kellett, as he was rear gunning (no pun intended). Talking of fairy dust,
which I was not, it seems # 555 Peter (Spielberg) Wells, # 141 Alan Brown and # 314 Ollerenshaw could have done with a
sprinkle or two as they all had various problems during the race. There was some stunning racing in the final, with the
pack racing as one car for a couple of laps, two wide about 6 long. It was like watching NASCAR, only without the
banked corners (tho they are coming on nicely) and the heavy sponsorship. # 53 Gayboy Had a spin,
but rejoined, # 555 Spielberg fell off the track, for dramatic affect, and # 264 Roland Kessall fell of in sympathy.
Kellett took the win from # 802 Capt Black with his Nitros Powered Capri.. The Grand National was a tad dull, though
the racing was close and fast, # 244 M & M & M held of # 53 Gayboy with # 555 Spielberg getting a good rear shot of
# 439 Jay Kellett who came from a lap down to finish forth! Now that's an ending I would like to see.
BANGERS
Talking of endings the Bangers started quite tamely with # 665 Paul Pennington being the only badly damaged car after a
nice chunky hit off # 461 Singy, in a very rare appearance racing at the track this season. Team V and TNT had a minor
spat and that # 41 Dan Steele took the win in a smart Grannie. He also won heat two, which had more action, # 162 hit
the far corner wall, ripping off his wing, and bonnet. # 449 Mark Thomas, despite some defensive driving, was mullered
by Team V car # 310 Eno, as was Pitbull of TNT right at the close of the heat. The Final and a mini Warton Crush, # 148
had # 116 up his rear, Dan bashed a way through, though surprisingly Dan failed to finish, only three actually did,
and that included Big Al, who actually won ! Dan raced in the DD, eventually getting squished by plenty of the other
drivers not far from Malcolm's Gate. Other cars totalled included Pennington, # 696 Karl Bradshaw and # 286 Michael
Lee, who was the winner as he was the last/fastest car at the end. Between heats one and two we had the caravan race.
It was, as is normal, a short affair with a huge pile up the far corner, which saw, in the middle of the carnage, #
383 Mad Car-Caravan at a very vertical angle, while being stuck in't rear end of # 665 Paul Pennington. My regular
companion on the Marshal post, Gary, was in a nice Volvo estate, which he alost managed to roll on a great hit on a
Team V caravan, # 15. # 149 Paul (Duck) Gore was well buried under a few other caravans and amazingly almost all the
cars were freed, and managed to restart, with trailers still attached. The Duck had a go at spinning out # 611 Dave
Stansfield, # 355 had still an impressive amount of caravan left, though it fell off after a couple of laps and two
trips across the infield. The Duck was on a roll, taking out many other cars in style, until they all formed a bit of
a trap that sucked him in too. There was a clear winner, and that was ……149 Duck and 611 Stanny , both of whom put on
a great show and were cheered by the massive crowd. Ok so it wasn't a clear winner as such, the clear winners were us
watching: .
