Well I dunno about you, but I enjoyed today's racing. It was fast, close and exciting… I wonder how many times I use the word 'close' in this report :).
MINISTOX
Ministox were on fine form, I think I'm coming round to the reducers, I mean restrictors.. # 3 Saint, in his last
Ministox meeting before he is forced to retire because he is now an old fart (Well he is actually 17), took a glorious
win after an impressive scrap for the lead with his younger brother # 93 Little Saint. There were plenty of kafuffles
though as # 168 Ike (still looking for Tina) Parkinson had a spin on the start finish straight almost taking off as he
went onto the infield, # 152 Mikey Jones was out early # 17 Jamie McCann beached on the infield and # 415 Sean Haggas
stopped on s/f straight. A few more spins and some excellent car control as the youngsters saved themselves from
spinning into the outer wall, or inner kerb, after a few heavy nudges. Heat two was not as organised and was red
flagged after # 131 Davey Jones was heavily spun into the starters part of the outer wall by one of the Taylor boys.
He was a little shaken, but stirred himself to race again later in the day. Earlier # 3 Saint got a nasty nudge from
# 168 Ike (never stop looking for Tina), Saint hit the outer wall square on with the rear of his car, though with the
amount of work that has gone on in his rear end, he was ok to restart, meanwhile # 164 John Williamson and # 165
Daniel Davies, in what looked like team colours, had a heavy smash too, though thankfully they were unhurt. The
restart was a tamer affair with close racing and a few light spins, least it was as light as a Muller light, but then
it got heavier, like a tale scone, near the end of the race when # 999 Darrell Shaw was punted hard into the far
corner wall. The final saw yet more action with about half the impressive field, of well over 20, getting involved,
at some point, in incidents from close racing to spins and nudges but right at the end of the race # 444 Lucy
Hyphenated and # 601 James Taylor, who were already out after colission earlier, had # 23 Dean Hoggarth
pile drive into them and as red flag was waved for the end of the race # 131 D. Jones and # 415 Haggas got in a
tangle which made Haggas drive over Jones' car and ended up doing a two wheel drive down the start finish straight, not
unlike Mr Bond (James not Mark in Goldfinger), # 93 Little Saint took his second win of the day, this guy is already better than his
'over the hill' older brother, after leading at the end of heat two. The Grand National saw a return to impressive
driving with really close racing and some superb recoveries from near spins, though toward the end # 711 Nicole
Hatcliffe got punted hard into the far corner wall and as the red flags came out # 601 J. Taylor steamed into her car
, ironically it was Taylor who came out the worst with a sore foot. The race was declared and the current champ #
101 Jimbob Hayhurst was declared the winner, well to be fair, he was in the lead at the time.
SUPER BANGERS
Super Bangers had possibly the closet racing of the day, and that's saying something. It was nip and tuck in every
heat with # 644 Tam Cavanaugh QC in his new look Yellow Capri, out on far corner # 244 Mad Mart won though he was
lucky to avoid # 100 Peggy Potts who got squeezed onto the inner kerb on the next to last lap and was out, taking to
the air for a second or two. # 264 Roland Kelsall had a nasty spin, he managed to limp his car to safety, during a waved yellow flag. # 141 Alan Brown took it on
himself to drive into the far corner wall after the race had finished and # 439 Jay Kellett took the win. # 244 Makim
and Kellett stole the day with some awesome racing, Kellett lost the lead to Makim mid race and they were neck and
neck for the rest of it, with Kellett biding his time and sneaking past on the second to last corner to take an
impressive win. The Grand National was tame in comparison, with Makim taking the win and a few minor knocks and spins
along the way.
WARTON STOCK CARS
Yellow waved flags soon signalled the first incident of heat one of the Stock Cars after # 251 Gareth O'Beirne and #
91 Phil Clegg came of worst after Clegg lost grip in the pack in the far corner, his front wheel became detached from
his car too. # 117 out early in restart, with plenty of others getting involved in the action, the racing was close up
front too, # 135 Mick Howard took the win. Heat two and # 680 James Mallinson caused a red flag after loosing a wheel
(which was the incident of choice today) and # 91 Clegg was having a torrid time after fixing his car after the heat
one crash, it seemed to have a mind of its own, and steering from a black and white movie jalopy, it even had the odd roll
that Laural & Hardy worked so hard to achive. There was a huge pile up on the last lap of the restart which saw # 34
Leon Jarman, # 80 Glen Lord and # 343 Lee Wrennall all in damaged cars with Wrennall being the worst as he was down in
the number of wheels he should have by one (see I told you so). # 911 Peter Kaulbarsch took the win. Absolutely
brilliant Stock Car final with close racing with a light shower adding to the mix and caught out # 134 Alex Chapman in
is newly, part finished car, unpainted looking like a Delorean car with its doors opened, # 34 Jarman ended up facing
oncoming traffic on the start/finish straight, if it was me, new underwear would have been needed, # 234 Jason Lord
managed to hold it together and took a great win (The final was brought to you by the number 34 & friends). The
Grand National was entertaining, only cause I won £50 in a sweepstake at a garage I visit, the Stock Car Grand National
however was fun due to the oil left by Ministox driver # 344 Haley Parkinson after she ripped off her sump and carried
on half a lap, not her fault. The stocks were more hindered by the cement rather than the oil, in fact I think it would
be a safe bet to say we used more cement on the track than Castle Cement did all of last week. They had a right old
time, though amazingly, there were no incidents of note. # 911 Kaulbarsch was once again today the victor.
BANGERS
Bangers, a disappointing turnout of cars, possably due to the Cowdie meeting the following Saturday, though not in the
action stakes, especially in the first heat. Tin of the meeting was # 880 Ant Kerr's DS limo, which was sadly destroyed
in an ill judged follow in attempt on # 149 Paul Gore, ill judged as in Ant hit more of the wall than the Ducks arse.
# 115 got wasted into the pit wall, but all of this was unimpressive compared to Oggy, who, with a little help from #
Big Al of Team V, ended up on top of the outer wall in a Barra/Cowdie styley incident, needing a hiab to get him
down. The restart saw a Warton crush featuring Invaders, a Steele (Deano) with Team V in attendance. # 41 Dan Steele
just drove through the blockage, like it was made out of cardboard, to a huge round of applause and cheering from the
crowd, and took the win. # 449 Mark Thomas was jacked by Big Al (Team V) in the far corner, in heat two and to be fair,
that was it for the major hits. The Metal Mania final was very tame, # 512 Allan Woods, would had stopped early on was
almost rolled after a glancing blow. Oggy was impaled into Malcolm's Gate and that was that really Eno took first the
place. The bangers Mechanics & DD were well attended and wrecking train featuring # 340 Atkinson, # 431 Dean Steele
and # 512 Allan Woods had a wrecking train into the far wall, Dean was blitzed again a lap later being squeezed into
the wall and out of the running. All that in the Mechanics, the DD was tamer though it took a great deal of effort to
separate # 474 Phil Clegg (no relation to the Super Banger # 91 Phil Clegg, least I don't think so.....I mean they aint
cloned him or anything, least I hope not.. ) and the eventual winner # 310 Eno. It was done and dusted by 5:30 too,
which ain't bad at all.
This report is the third I have written for this meeting already, hence the odd jokes, let me know if you like this style, or if you preffere the straight (boring) reports... Theres an hint in there for you :) PS Dont take offence if you the butt of a joke, you know I 'cough' mean it :)
