RULES 2004
ALL DRIVERS RACE AT THEIR OWN RISK
BANGERS
80. ALL BANGERS MUST BE M.O.T. FAILED CARS OF ORIGINAL MANUFACTURERS SPECIFICATIONS EXCEPT ANY ENGINE MAY BE USED IN ANY
CAR PROVIDED THE CAPACITY DOES NOT EXCEED THE ORIGINAL ENGINE SIZE. ALL INTERNAL FITTINGS MUST BE REMOVED FROM THE CAR
INCLUDING THE PETROL TANK, EXCEPT THE DRIVERS SEAT, WHICH MUST BE SECURELY BOLTED OR WELDED TO THE FLOOR AT FOUR POINTS.
A THREE GALLON MAX. CAPACITY REPLACEMENT PETROL TANK TO BE SECURED INSIDE THE CAR. NOT ON THE PARCEL SHELF. IT MUST BE
FITTED WITH AN ON/OFF TAP AND CLEARLY MARKED WITH WHITE PAINT. IT WILL BE FITTED WITH A BREATHER PIPE. ALL EXTERIOR
FITTINGS MUST BE REMOVED, e.g. HUBCAPS, WHEEL
TRIMS, CHROME STRIPS, DOOR HANDLES, WING AND DOOR MIRRORS, HEADLIGHTS, SIDELIGHTS, REAR LIGHTS, AERIALS AND TOW BALLS,
FRONT AND REAR PLASTIC BUMPERS. SUN ROOF APPERTURE MAY BE COVERED NO MORE THAN 2" PAST THE OPENING IN MAXIMUM ¼" PLATE.
81. FOUR WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLES ARE NOT ALLOWED. LOCKED DIFFS ARE ALLOWED. CRUSH TUBES ARE NOT ALLOWED.
82. ALL GLASS MUST BE REMOVED FROM THE CAR BEFORE IT ENTERS THE PITS AREA, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF A REAR VIEW MIRROR
INSIDE THE CAR.
83. ALL DOORS MUST BE BOLTED OR ROPED SHUT. THE DRIVERS DOOR MAY BE SEAM WELDED AS ADDED PROPTECTION. FOOT PLATES MUST
BE FITTED IN DRIVER'S WELL.
84. THE DRIVER'S DOOR MUST HAVE ADDITIONAL PROTECTION. A ½" MINIMUM 1" MAXIMUM FLAT PLATE BOLTED TO THE DRIVER'S DOOR
FITTED OUTSIDE THE DOOR WITH A MINIMUM OF 4 BOLTS AND MAXIMUM OF 6. NO DIVI BAR TO BE USED ON DOOR PLATES. THE DRIVER'S
DOOR MUST NOT BE CUT DOWN. DOOR PLATES WILL BE A MINIMUM OF 18" DEEP AND A MAXIMUM OF 24" DEEP. THE DOOR PLATE SHALL BE
SECURED BY STEEL PLATES ON THE INSIDE OF THE CAR AND NOT JUST BOLTED TO THE DOOR SKIN.
85. NO ARMOUR WHATSOEVER WILL BE ALLOWED. NO BALLAST IN ANY FORM WILL BE PERMITTED.
86.
a) PLEASE NOTE THAT ROLL CAGES ARE FOR THE PROTECTION OF DRIVERS ONLY. EXCESSIVE STEELWORK INSIDE THE CAR, NOT ESSENTIAL
FOR THE PROTECTION OF THE DRIVER, WILL NOT BE ALLOWED. NO CAR WILL BE ALLOWED TO RACE IF ITS CONDITION IS DEEMED BY THE
SCRUTINEER TO OFFER LESS THAN ADEQUATE PROTECTION TO THE DRIVER.
b) NO CAR WILL BE ALLOWED TO RACE ON THE DAY IF IT FAILS SCRUTINEERING. FAULTS MUST BE RECTIFIED BEFORE PASSING
SCRUTINEERING.
87. SUMP GUARDS ARE PERMITTED BUT MUST BE BOLTED AND NOT WELDED. PULLEY GUARDS ARE NOT ALLOWED.
88. BANGERS WILL BE A STANDARD SHELL. DRIVERS DOOR TO BE WELDED OR BOLTED, NO OTHER WELDING ALLOWED EXCEPT THE BONNET
CORNER PLATES MAY BE WELDED OR BOLTED. FOLDING OF THE FRONT WINGS USING A MAXIMUM OF TWO BOLTS IS ALLOWED. WHEELS WILL
BE STANDARD MANUFACTURERS SPECIFICATION. NO MODIFIED OR WELDED RIMS. NO COMPETITION TYRES. NO DUAL PURPOSE SOFT
COMPOUND TYRES. YOKOHAMA A008 WILL BE ALLOWED, BUT NOT A008R TYRES. WELLER 8 SPOKES ARE NOT ALLOWED.
89. BOOTS AND BONNETS MUST BE ACCESSIBLE i.e. NOT WELDED. A MAXIMUM OF FOUR BONNET BOLTS WILL BE ALLOWED. DIVI BAR MAY
BE USED FOR BONNET BOLTS. CRUSH TUBES FRONT AND REAR ARE OPTIONAL. BOOTS MAY BE WELDED WITH 1" OF WELD ON EACH SIDE ON
CARS WITH INACCESSIBLE BOOT COVERTIES eg jags. MESH IN WINDSCREENS IS OPTIONAL WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE CARAVAN RACE
WHEN MESH IS COMPULSORY.
90. TOW BARS AND FIXING BRACKETS MAY BE LEFT ON THE CAR. TOW BALLS MUST BE REMOVED.
91.
a) ROLL CAGES MUST BE FITTED. A MINIMUM OF 2" SQUARE OR ROUND SECTION WITH ONE DIAGONAL CROSS BRACE. A MAXIMUM OF SIX
POSTS IS ALLOWED, NO FURTHER FORWARD THAN THE WINDSCREEN PILLARS AND NO FURTHER BACK THAN THE CENTRE OF THE REAR WHEEL
ARCHES, FIXED TO FLOOR AND ROOF.
b) NO MORE THAN TWO EXTRA CROSS BRACES FOR DRIVER PROTECTION WILL BE ALLOWED. THE TWO EXTRA BRACES WILL BE PERMITTED
AT THE DASHBOARD AND JUST BEHIND THE DRIVER'S SEAT ONLY. IF USED THEY MAY BE FIXED INSIDE THE UPRIGHT POSTS OF THE ROLL
CAGE OR BRACED AGAINST THE SIDE OF THE CAR. THE UPPER CROSS MEMBER MUST BE AS WIDE AS THE CAR.
c) BARS RUNNING THE LENGTH OF THE CAR UNDER THE SEAT AT FLOOR LEVEL WILL NOT BE ALLOWED. THE UPRIGHTS MUST BE FROM ROOF
TO FLOOR, NOT FIXED TO A BAR AT FLOOR LEVEL RUNNING FROM FRONT TO REAR OF THE CAR. AN OBLONG OR SQUARE FRAME AT ROOF
HEIGHT IS ALLOWED.
d) BASE PLATES ON ROLL CAGE POSTS MUST NOT BE MORE THAN 6" SQUARE.
e) PLATING AT WHEEL ARCHES TO SUPPORT ROLL CAGES WILL NOT BE ALLOWED.
f) BARS RUNNING FROM THE FRONT TO REAR OF ROLL CAGE UPRIGHTS WILL BE ALLOWED. THESE BARS MUST BE ATTACHED TO ROLL CAGE
AT THE TOP OF THE DOOR AND NOT NEAR THE SILLS.
g) STRUT BRACES MUST BE BOLTED TO THE TOPS OF STRUTS ACROSS THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THEY MUST NOT BE BRACED AGAINST ANY
OTHER PART OF THE BODY. BRACKETS MAY BE WELDED TO STRUT TOPS SO THAT A STRUT BRACE MAY BE BOLTED TO THESE BRACKETS.
h) HARNESS MUST BE ATTACHED TO ROLL CAGE, NOT TO THE REAR FLOOR..
92.
a) BONNETS WILL BE UNBOLTED WHEN PRESENTED FOR SCRUTINEERING, THE BONNET MUST BE ON BUT UNBOLTED FOR SCRUTINEERING.
b) FIRE HOLES MUST BE CUT IN BONNETS ABOVE CARBS.
c) THE COOLING SYSTEM MUST REMAIN IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. STEAM TANKS ARE ALLOWED DOWN ONE SIDE OF THE ENGINE ONLY.
'L' SHAPED, NOT 'U' SHAPED. ANY CAR THAT IS ALLOWED TO RACE WITH THE RADIATOR INSIDE THE CAR MUST HAVE A PROTECTIVE
SCREEN BETWEEN THE DRIVER AND RADIATOR.
d) AT THE METRO MEETING STEAM TANKS ARE OPTIONAL.
93. THERE WILL BE NO JACKING UP OF EMPTY OR STATIONARY CARS. CONTRAVENTION OF THIS DIRECTIVE IS A LOAD UP OFFENCE AND
A POSSIBLE BAN.
