How good was that??

Metal Mainia 3 (07:03:04) Warton Stock Car Club.

Is it me, or is Metal Mainia getting better each year? From the first dodgy one, it has grown to be a nationally recognised event, and the third will be an hard one to beat. It all started easy enough with six Bears, six Levellers, six Invaders and shed loads of other drivers. The tin was impressive too, loadsa Jags, Grannies and Yanks. But best tin was an impressive four door hearse from Riot Squad, which sadly went home with only massive front end damage. It may have got best paintjob too, wot with wartononline.com on it, but a Levellers car had a fantastic bonnet for the event. Another Leveller had 'If you won't come to Barra, We'll come to Warton' on it, which I thought was nice of them, til I was told it was aimed at Dan Steele. But the main action was on the track, an awesome roll in heat one of the Stock Cars!! # 777 Jack Lord took off over the new kerbing, rolling over and landing on another. Jack did race again, for the rest of the day til his engine blew. His son Jason, had the noisiest car I have ever heard, in fact my ears are still banging from the noise, sadly that too blew up, well when I say sadly I mean thank goodness :) The closest race I have seen for ages was the dash for cash, with more leaders than Warton has had in the last 2 months! # 134 Alex Chapman took the eventual win, and the cash, I'm still waiting for my cut of it! But the main event was the Bangers..

Heat One: 18 bangers turned out. The destruction was immense, the pile up on the far corner had to been seen to be believed... though there was plenty to see! # 525 and one of the Bears were against the wall pinned there by utter chaos around them. Alan Lewis belted into the pack as # 408 took to two wheels. # 421 Daddy Bear steamed into the rear of the Ghosts car tearing it to pieces, it was thought by many as the hit of the day, the super long Westminster, one of only nine EVER made, of Alan's was now a very bent car the size of a matchbox. Daddy Bear wanted more so took out # 728 Paul Robinson before the race ended. Amazingly Daddy Bear, real name Nutty Nigel, was one of only two to finish.

Heat Two: 18 bangers this time and again first corner action, # 174 Mark Wilson, in an high line hearse got mullered into the wall, even the coffin nearly fell off, # 53 David Cuthbert, the Volvo with sink on it, did a two wheel stunt Bond, James Bond, would have been proud of, though landing it into the wall wouldn't have helped him escape the henchmen. # 106 Ian Roberts in the Rover, Sweeney stylye, got span out in a big way, though this time three cars did make it to the end.

Heat Three: 22 bangers.. A massive wrecking train soon developed with # 611 David Stansfield (lisas brother) having the passenger side of his car skinned after a hit from Team V's Michael Lee, # 286, Bad Newzs' Gavin, # 170, rammed into Lee and # 648 Rob Davies in a super Jag, Morse styly, went into Gavin. Morse was the pummelled by Allan Invader Woods, who had hit wall hard before stopping suddenly in the Jags boot. Allan was out cold, there's a surprise, as # 424 Jason Pollard, Erics son, wellied it into Allans rear. Young gun Tom Invaders Sanders jacked up the bad Bear, and the race was red flagged. Allan was ok and racing resumed, Tom again belted the Bear called Jason, Tom was then pushed by Donkey in his hearse.. Neither finished the race, in fact this too was hard on the cars and only three did make it to the end.

Over 20 cars came out for the consolation race, so it was split into two heats. The first had 11 starters and the slowest follow in I have ever seen, it destroyed the Young Guns ex-impressive Yank, snapping it in three places, The four door hearse of Jacko almost rolled a very lucky # 678 who remained on his wheels... just! # 728 Paul, was finished off by # 169 Jason Don't Care Bear Thompson. Heat 2 and we, as in the photographers and marshals, had to get it to avoid an incoming missile, later ID'd as Gypo Jim of Bad Newz who was out cold after a naughty Bear hit him hard.

The Final and John Thaw would be turning in his grave at the sight of the Sweeny Rover getting mauled by, you guessed it, a Bear, this time # 521 Ashley Riley, Marks brother. The Bum Pirate, his nickname not mine, that is # 53 sink Cuthbert, again took up flying lessons, though this time getting fully airborne only to land astride a concrete block, ending his race there. (insert own joke in that last sentence). A leveller ended up on his side and Daddy Bear fancied a bit of Noon, though they both kept going. Well Daddy did until hitting # 16 Pob of Levellers and getting rear ended by that Noon bloke. Dan Steele took the victory and we moved onto the...

All Comers race, Cuthberts fave race of the day, though he weren't in it. # 321 Brett Fry of The Bears, has the same nickname as one of our lads at Warton, and Wingnut got span like one early on. Another wrecking train then followed, # 501 Ste Kay, Invader, in his limo, that had not run well all day, got planted into the wall. # 331 Mr J.Roberts, he of Bong Gang fame, span # 55 Graeme Smith into Stes wreck, Brett Bear piled into Mr Roberts car, and noon absolutely BLITZED Bretts car in a nano second, only to be jacked by # 59 Marc Blower of the Levellers. The destruction was awesome and on a scale rarely seen at Warton, yup it was great fun.

Amazingly 13 cars came out for the D.D. , Praise to all the guys who worked on getting the cars out again, the action soon ended up on the infield, with # 331 Mr J.Roberts taking on all comers. before becoming filling in a Steele and Bear sandwich. they all carried on though and ended up in a wrecking mess at the pit end of the track, while in the far corner # 62 Dave Eccles, who had seemed to have had a quiet day by his standards, was taking on 2 of the Bears.. The red flags were thrown, as were some dummies, and we all went home. By far the best meeting I have seen in a long while, if not ever, at Warton and hope the Bears come to play again at the Championship meeting on the 30th May...
