Metal Mania II Sponsored by Singletons of Carnforth.

So the first meeting of 2003, was it better than the one a year ago???
Metal Mania 2 Warton Stock Car Club 2nd March 2003
Yup we were back to Warton for the first meeting of 2003 with the metal crushing Metal Mania.
Around sixty bangers and a handful of stock cars were the days entertainment, and what
entertainment.Four hearse, two yanks and a Daimler limo were in amongst the usual Grannies and
Jags.
Heat one and Bad News for Band news driver #62 David Eccles, has his car was mullered by the
Mobs #152 James Dillon's hearse, which ended up clear off the ground with #461 Singy's
hearse up its rear. Another high flyer was Chris Barlow, who's estate had Team V's Eno
under him.. All this on the first corner :) The Mobs, Scott Hamilton was pinned in this mess
as the Invaders, #512 Allan Woods belted past shoving #88 Wan Kerr from DAHMbusters around
the track. Only two finished, with #152 James Dillon getting the win and Mr Woods following
him for second.
Heat two and yet more carnage #491 John Mason was caught in a Warton Crush in his splendid
hearse after clobbering the other hearse of #111 Jeff Pratt. John got clear but was then
demolished by #258, Harty, who in turn was creamed by #30 Dougy Roberts, all because John
was trying to take out #550 Strip it. .. #573 got stuck into Joe, #620, who ended up in the
air. #211 Squirt & #332 Danny Shaw ended up nose to nose swapping engine fluids They never
heard of safe driving? Win given to #258 with #30 Dougy Roberts and #550 also placing..
The Blooz Boyz were out in force for heat three, this heat was much more of a race as there
was no major track blockage. That said #302 learnt not to take off his helmet until he is
out of the car , as it was hit and he whacked his mouth on the steering wheel. #41 Dan
Steele was on top form doing his usual 'out of my way' drive, punting off most everyone on
the track. TNT's #42 Donkey was wasted by #200 Noony. Team Bam Bam lost #221 in a forced
head on with #507 James Joyce by the Leveller of #264 Ian Wallace, who in turn felt the
touch of Mr Steele. Dan went on to take the win, #510 Alan Lewis, #511Steve Scurr, #514 Paul
Woods and #266 Alan Roskell also finished well.
Plenty out for the Consolidation race, #44 Ste 'Bad News' Smith felt the power of The mobs
hearse early on, and spunky little #573 took out the very same hearse a lap later, it ended
up facing the wrong way in the front of Noony's Jag. One of the wrecks of the day was that
of Ste Smith, looked like a black piece of screwed up paper! The finishers were #318 Wilf
Speak, #310 John Nicholson, #215 and #14 Wil Walmsley..
Controversy in the final as The Mobs #108 Ian Gordon waited and pile in the wrong way at the
start of the race.. Not surprisingly there was a Warton Crush and many cars went out and
failed to join in the restart. A few fist flew as folks expressed there unhappiness at Ian's
actions. The highlights of the restart were flying jump of Bad News' #215, whom took out the
inner kerb to boot, and what I thought was the hit of the day, that of #512 Allan Woods
awesome jacking of #266 Big Al. Both cars lifted a good few feet in the air, despite being
in the middle of the track! #431 Deano Steele, who had failed to start his XLS all day,
Steamed in to #14 Will Walmsley, Dan Steele did not finish, that said only #510 Alan Lewis,
#266 Big Al and #461 Singy, in his hearse, did!
The All comers race was a bit of a rod fest, with virgin driver in car #63 managing a lap,
and hits #215 By Deano, #510 Alan Lewis by #514 Paul Woods.. The DD saw Singy in the filling
of a butty, #350 Dan Peel one side and TMK's #549 Colin, the other, Colin soon got Deano
up his rear and Dan Peel felt the hard hit of the Invaders' #514 Paul Woods, who then
sensationally exploded in a fireball, Paul was OK and the fire was put out. Meanwhile it
went down to two Team V cars of Big Al an Eno to have a head on to decide that Eno had won..
What a great day it had been.
The Stock Cars had filled in the gaps with wins for #938, #377, in the closest finish
I have seen, #80 and #377 again.. There was also a TV crew from South Korea who thought
us really daft and very British :) Though it could have been Ant & Dec in disguise :)..
Next Warton Meeting on 20th April at 1PM See you then.
