Right then here we go....
Question 1: Why SnOrK ??
I ask that all the time... I think, I got the name at secondry school (high school) as I
was developing into the bloke I am now,if you get my drift.
I was one of the first in my class to,erm develop, and I got the name. It was not for long
tho,I was soon left behind by everyone else :((
The name went away into distant memory,until I got a modem,signed on at Clara.net and got
asked for a nick name. The only not rude one I could think off was Snork.
It had not been used before,on Clara, so Snork was reborn..
Of course, with hindsight, I could have made up a new name that would suit me better, such as
Zuess, Tyson or Neo. Maybe you could come up with a new nickname for me, then again!
Sometimes I think I should go back to my real name,but if someones says SnOrK then I know they mean me,and you lot know who SnOrK is too :)
Question 2: Why do a site on banger racing??
well its not just banger racing, I love all motorsports,inc. Formula 1,
btcc and C.A.R.T.
When I got my modem,I paid £18 for it. I noticed that A) I got
free webspace with my Clara.net account and B) Publisher had an idiots way of
putting a site on the net,paste & post. I started with a site about comics,Bullet was my fave
old comic and Smasher was my fave baddy (a big robot -- it was the 70's !!!)
It,the site,soon developed into music and other bits and bats.. I started a what I did on my
day off section and one day went to my first banger race at Warton.It was Oct 1998
and it pissed down,I was frozen,wet to the bone and hooked..
I went back in May 1999 and took some crappy photos,posted them on my site and got immediate
eedback.. a new thing for me and my site :) I went a few more times and at the Championship
meeting I got invited onto the infeild by Chris (of the then offical Warton Site). A friend said
I was like a dog with two dicks.. needless to say I had a great time and have been there
ever since.
I became the Official Warton Photographer later that year and for all of 2000 and 2001
I resigned, but still go and take loads of pictures!. I
write reports of Warton meetings for my site and the program, also send photos and reports to
'Oval Racing News'. The site has took
over my life. I learnt HTML (web programming) from a book (idiots guide to Creating a web
page) and moved the site to this location July 4th 2001.
Question 3: How come your site counter don't go up all the time ??
A lot of sites,if not most of them,have counters that go up 1 digit everytime the page is opened,then you find you have to go to and from the main page to get round the site,so one visit could clock up five or six hits!!.This gives a false idea of how many people visit the site. So
the counter I have is in the margin that doesn't get reloaded everytime you move around the site,like when you came here (It also speeds up loading times as you wizz around the site). But there is more,my counter does not add another hit from the same computer in a 24 hour cycle. So visit my site at 8AM.. 1 hit (ta)
you visit again in your lunch break,no extra hit.. Again at teatime,still no hit, then at midnight.. Nope nothing yet. 7:30AM.. Thanks but still no.. 8:01AM and we are off again. It gives me a more precise idea of how many people come on this site,and my ego remains
nice and small (a bit like my... erm never mind).. Try other sites and press the refresh button,watch them numbers roll and egos get bigger and bigger :)
Question 4: What got you started in photography ??
I got a saturday job at Liptons (a supermarket in the town I was brought up in) and earnt loads of money.. I bought a 110 film Kodak Ectra camera. I never really used it until they started
to demolish the cotton mills that were near my house.. I was amazed at the photos I got back,brick and windows in the air after the ball and chain had done its work (I may post a couple up at a later date). I realised
then that cameras can be used for more than family snaps.. I bought a 35mm camera and documented demolitions of many a fine building,I have thousands of photos of that stuff :)
I experimented with Black & White,even developing my own.. But returned to color,where I have stayed ever since :)
Question 5: How come you don't use a digi camera for action pictures.
Thats easy.. I think they are crap.. two reasons :
a) They are too slow for action shots,OK for pit or wreck shots,but they think for about a
second before taking the photo,That ain't quick enough for me :)
b) The other reason is the photos often look sterile and take away the rough edge of the racing
that we enjoy.. I like the blurry action shots that seem to add to the atmoshere of the
smash, roll or fire.
That said the digital pics are good as they can be put up the same night as the meeting :), So maybe
I'm converting to digital full time, then again..
Question 6: You don't take photos in the pits.. Why??
Again thats an easy one.. Anyone,inc. spectators can take pit photos,I
want people to share the excitment of the cars moving.. Beter still rolling or in the big hit
. Its more fun and more interesting to look at. You want to see loads of cars parked in the pits?
Go to ASDA car park & use your imagination :)
Question 7: You take photos off all classes at a meeting.. why??
Some of my best photos in past seasons have been from non banger classes.. I learnt early on that action is action whatever class of car it is. I missed a few rolls at Warton from the Stock Cars and Ministox.. I hate to miss
rolls of any sort.
Question 8: How come you didnt get a photo of my roll ??
Hey I cannot get them all.. I do the best I can :)
Question 9: Are you on drugs ??
No. I do not even smoke... My "humor" is slightly off the beaten track.
I see things in a different way to everyone else.. Dunno why,but its more fun than being a
boring old sod :)) Though looking at recent reports, they seem a little too serious!
I like comedy 'Life of Brian','Dumb & Dumber','Scary Movie' and "Planes,Trains and Automobiles" are amongst my
favorite films. I love 'Fawlty Towers','Malcolm in the Middle','Banzi','World Famous for dicking
around', 'Two pints of lager & a packet of crisps','Friends','Travel Sick', 'They think its all over,
and 'Ab Fab', too mention only a few.. :)
Question 10: Why don't you supply photos for the program?
I have offered to email as many photos as needed, free of charge,
in JPEG format, but have been told our printers cannot work with JPEGS.
Question 11: Will you have sex with me ??
Oh go on then, though I don't like doing the groupie thing:)
