Question 1: Why the hell are you called SnOrK ??
When I went thru puberty a certain tubual part of my body looked like the thing on the SnOrKs
cartoon series characters heads, photos via any search engine. I got called it by my then bezzy mate. I'd forgot
about it until asked for a nick name by my first internet provider (Clara.net). As I had never
really had a nick name, I decided to reinstate this one, that was in 1998... Now as many people
know me as SnOrK as my real name...
Sometimes I think I should go back to my real name, but if someones says SnOrK then I know they mean me,and you lot know who SnOrK is too :)
Question 2: Why do a site on banger racing??
well its not just banger racing, I love all motorsports, inc. Formula 1,
btcc and NASCAR & KART
When I got my modem,I paid £18 for it. I noticed that:
I got free webspace with my Clara.net account
Publisher had an idiots way of putting a site on the net, paste & post. I started with a site about comics,Bullet was my fave
old comic and Smasher was my fave baddy (a big robot -- it was the 70's !!!)
It,the site, soon developed into music and other bits and bats.. I started a what I did on my
day off section and one day went to my first banger race at Warton. It was Oct 1998
and it rained a great deal,I was frozen, wet to the bone and hooked..
I went back in May 1999 and took some crappy photos, posted them on my site and got immediate
feedback.. a new thing for me and my site :) I went a few more times and at the Championship
meeting I got invited onto the infeild by Chris (of the then offical Warton Site). A friend said
I was like a dog with two dicks.. needless to say I had a great time and have been there
ever since.
I became the Official Warton Photographer later that year and for all of 2000 and 2001
I resigned, but still go and take loads of pictures!. I
write reports of Warton meetings for my site and the program, also send photos and reports to
'Oval Racing News', 'Wasted' and 'Lancaster & Morecambe Citizen'. The site has took
over my life. I learnt HTML (web programming) from a book (idiots guide to Creating a web
page) and moved the site to this location July 4th 2001.
Question 3: How come your site counter don't go up all the time ??
I am not trying to fool anyone that my site is more popular than anyone
elses.. My counter is set to only go up once a day for each PC that uses it. So if you visit my
site 6 times in a day, then look at, say 20 pages each time, you will only clock up one hit
on my counter (for which I am gratefull). Some sites think they are being clever, by having the
counter go up everytime you look at a different page on the site, so if you repeated what I said
before, you would clock up a massive 120 hits!!!! That is for people who have big egos and need
to brag about hits, the actually page hits on this site since 4th July 2001 is over 2 million,
but that is not important to me.. I preffere to see how many different people visit a day.
Question 4: What got you started in photography ??
I got a Saturday job at Liptons (a supermarket in the town I was brought
up in) and earnt loads of money.. I bought a 110 film Kodak Ectra camera. I never really
used it until they started to demolish the cotton mills that were near my house.. I was
amazed at the photos I got back, brick and windows in the air after the ball and chain had
done its work.
Take a look at my first action photos. I realised then that cameras can be
used for more than family snaps.. I bought a 35mm camera and documented demolitions of many
a fine building,I have thousands of photos of that stuff :)
I experimented with Black & White, even developing my own.. But returned to color, where I
have stayed ever since :)
Question 5: How come you don't use a digi camera for action pictures.
My mind is changeing about digital cameras, I have bought a new one for the 2006 season. Its 7.1 Mega
Pixels and does movies with sound. Sadly its still no use for action photos as they lag (take over a second to take a photo
after you have pressed the button). I need over £500 to get a SLR camera, like other photographers use, these take instant
digital photos, but are out of my price range. So for now my 26 year old Canon A1 camera using 35mm film will have to do.
Question 6: You don't take many photos in the pits.. Why??
Again thats an easy one.. Anyone, inc. spectators can take pit photos,I
want people to share the excitment of the cars moving.. Beter still rolling or in the big hit
. Its more fun and more interesting to look at. You want to see loads of cars parked in the pits?
Go to ASDA car park & use your imagination :)
Question 7: You take photos off all classes at a meeting.. why??
Some of my best photos in past seasons have been from non banger classes.. I
learnt early on that action is action whatever class of car it is. I missed a few rolls at
Warton from the Stock Cars and Ministox.. I hate to miss rolls of any sort.
Infact in 2004 and 2005 there were more rolls in Super Bangers and Stock Cars than in bangers!!
Question 8: How come you didnt get a photo of my roll ??
Hey I cannot get them all.. I do the best I can :)
Question 9: Do you think you are funny ?
That depends who's asking. I try and inject humor into the site and my reports.
There are some people who think they are crap and not written in 'English', but hey thats my
style, imagine if someone had told Piccasso that his pictures did not look like humans, or
told Lowery his people looked too skinny... I could be the next J K Rowling, then again, would
I want to be. I have no idea where my 'humour' comes from, but most of you seem to like it, if
you didn't you would not have got this far into the site.. or would you ???
Question 10: Do you get any funding from the club ?
NO... I do this as my hobby, I don't ask for, and don't get, a penny from the club.
The club is small and I feel that I can support my site and photo costs without draining cash
from the club. There are some who try and make money from taking photos, but thats just adding
pressure to yourself, doing it all for free and remaining unofficail means no pressure, therefore
a stress free life. That remains unchanged even though I have spent a year on the committee.
Question 11: Why do you give the photos to the drivers free of charge ?
Again, like the last question, because I can.. The drivers pay a fortune to buy cars, set
them up for racing, repairs and travelling costs, all to entertain us.. So I do my bit by
giving them FREE photos of the cars. All the 35mm action and selected digital photos find
there way to the relivant drivers. I will continue to do this as long as I can afford too. I
also don't, can't, take photos of every single car at every single race, but try to get each of
them a few times during the season.
Question 12: What makes you think you deserve to be on the Clubs committee ?
Ok I agree I'm not experienced in racing cars, building cars or even the detail of the rules. But I am passionate about
Warton Stock Car Club and want it to be as successfull and big as I can help make it. I am not like some folks, who
seem to think the club is a sort of bank and that they can over charge the club for any jobs done, no I will not and do
not take a penny off the club, even when I have been marshalling (which is a paid job). I have come up with ideas to
push the club forward, the big one being WARton of the roses. I try and treat rule breakers the same, making it fair for
everyone, though that has been difficult in some cases as I have been out voted on numerous occasions. I also will remain
on the committee as long as I am voted onto it, or as long as I am able to give it 100%, and hope to see the club grow and become
more popular.
