Ye Olde Warton Stock Car Club

Warton Stock car Club has been around since Easter Monday 1972.. though in them days it was a gravel pit track..

The Newspaper clipping, below, shows

It seems that the track owes much of its exsitance to the Hayhurst family... I wonder what ever happened to that bunch of people.

Thanks to Graham Hayhurst for the clipping.

Ask a silly question you get an answer... Arthur Graves is still connected with the club in that he supplies the water cart for each meeting.Nelson, Butty Doddy and Joan Hayhurst are all Grahams dads cousins, and the others mentioned are their offspring's!!Phillip Hayhurst who raced that day and was only 8 or 9 at the time used to race at Warton regularly and then went on the F'2 where he was runner up for the world title twice. He was unfortunately killed about two years ago racing a vintage motorbike on the IOM. Nelson Hayhurst is still to be found at Warton on race days sometimes with the next generation, Ben Hayton, who races stock cars and did race F2's.Ted Branson through later generations is still about in racing circles, and Kenneth Barnes and Tim Holt still live in the Kendal area.
